Hatch Rest+ 2nd gen vs LittleHippo MELLA

Rest+ 2nd gen and MELLA both combine light cues, sounds, a clock display, a child lock, and optional audible alarms. Rest+ favors remote, day-specific, multi-step routines and can operate on battery. MELLA keeps every control on the clock and uses its coin cell only to preserve settings.

Rest+ needs the app; MELLA is fully on-device

Rest+ 2nd gen requires the Hatch Sleep app, an account, and Wi-Fi for initial setup. Its app provides remote control.

MELLA is configured from its own buttons. It has no app, remote control, account, or Wi-Fi dependency.

Weekly routines versus a nap countdown

Rest+ supports wake and bedtime clock times, day-of-week selection, and multi-step routines. Hatch does not document a nap countdown.

MELLA supports wake and bedtime schedules plus a manually activated nap countdown and a 30-minute pre-wake phase. It does not support separate days of the week or multi-step routines.

Rest+ keeps operating; MELLA only saves settings

Rest+ includes a charging base and can operate on its rechargeable battery for up to 12 hours under low brightness and volume; Hatch says most users see about eight hours.

MELLA needs external power to run. Its CR2032 coin cell preserves basic memory settings but is not documented to power the display, cue light, or sound.

MELLA stays editable offline; Rest+ keeps saved playback

Rest+ can continue saved scheduled content through Bluetooth fallback during an internet outage, but routine editing, timers, and certain settings remain unavailable. MELLA's local controls and schedules have no internet dependency.

Rest+'s core wake cue does not require Hatch+; the optional plan expands content. MELLA has no documented subscription or paid content layer.

Choose by the dependency you can accept

  • Choose Rest+ for day-specific multi-step routines, remote changes, and continued operation on a charged battery.
  • Choose MELLA for fully local setup, a nap countdown, an included wall adapter, and memory retention without an account.
  • Do not treat MELLA's CR2032 as battery operation; it only preserves settings.
