LittleHippo MELLA vs Tommee Tippee Groclock

MELLA and Groclock both offer local controls, a child lock, a silent light cue, an optional audible alarm, and a display-off setting. Their biggest difference is how they handle naps: MELLA counts down a duration, while Groclock waits for a stored clock time.

MELLA counts down; Groclock targets a time

MELLA has a manually activated nap countdown alongside its wake and bedtime schedules. LittleHippo confirms the Version 2.0 mode but does not publish its exact duration range.

Groclock stores separate night and daytime-nap wake times. The caregiver activates the relevant mode, and the cue changes at the selected time of day.

MELLA adds a sound machine and pre-wake phase

MELLA includes a sound machine and a 30-minute pre-wake cue for its regular wake schedule. Groclock does not include a sound machine. Both support a visual-only cue or a separate audible alarm, plus adjustable light brightness.

Neither operates from its memory backup

MELLA's CR2032 coin cell preserves basic settings but is not documented to run the display, light, or sound. Groclock freezes its time and saved values when power stops, then resumes from that frozen time when power returns.

MELLA includes its AC wall adapter and four-foot cable. Groclock includes a 1.8-metre micro-USB cable but no wall adapter.

Choose by nap workflow

  • Choose MELLA when you want to start a duration countdown at nap time or also want built-in sounds.
  • Choose Groclock when you want separate night and nap end times stored as times of day.
  • Correct Groclock's time after a long outage before relying on a stored cue; do not expect MELLA's coin cell to run a cue during one.
