Countdown and clock-time modes solve different jobs

A countdown starts when you activate it and ends after the selected duration. That works naturally when the nap begins at a different time each day. A clock-time mode ends at a stored time of day, which avoids calculating a duration but may need adjustment when the start time changes.

Neither method selects an appropriate nap length. The control only runs the duration or end time chosen by the caregiver.

MELLA uses a separate nap countdown

The LittleHippo MELLA has wake and bedtime clock-time schedules plus a manually activated nap countdown. LittleHippo confirms the Version 2.0 nap-timer mode but does not publish its exact duration range.

MELLA also has a 30-minute pre-wake phase for its regular wake schedule. That pre-wake cue is separate from the nap countdown.

Groclock stores a second wake time for naps

The Groclock has separate night and daytime-nap modes. Each mode ends at a chosen clock time, and the caregiver activates the relevant mode on the clock.

It does not provide a duration countdown. Because the clock itself freezes during a power loss, its displayed time should be corrected after a long outage before relying on the stored nap end time.

Other countdown options add power or app control

ZAZU Sam provides a documented 30–180 minute nap countdown, fixed daily bedtime and wake times, and operation on four AA batteries. It does not store a separate weekend wake time.

The Tommee Tippee Connected Sleep Trainer provides a nap countdown and several named app alarms, but setup requires an account, app, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Tommee Tippee does not state whether saved schedules run without internet.

A second routine is not automatically a nap timer

Hatch Rest 2nd gen and Rest+ 2nd gen support multi-step wake and bedtime routines, but Hatch does not document a nap countdown. Day-of-week selection is established for Rest+ only. Yogasleep documents wake and bedtime schedules for Light to Rise without stating that it has a nap mode.

If a daytime cue is a hard requirement, use an explicit nap field in the clock matcher rather than assuming that multiple routines mean a nap mode.

Choose the control you will actually use

  • Choose a countdown when nap start times vary and you want to enter a duration at activation.
  • Choose a clock-time nap mode when the desired end time is stable and easy to store.
  • Check whether the nap must be started manually; both MELLA and Groclock require local activation.
  • Keep weekday/weekend recurrence separate from nap support; these are different schedule capabilities.
