Four current options with different strengths
The Yogasleep Light to Rise, Tommee Tippee Groclock, LittleHippo MELLA, and ZAZU Sam the Sheep all complete initial setup on the device. None requires an account, app, or Wi-Fi connection.
Light to Rise combines wake and bedtime clock-time schedules with built-in sounds. Groclock provides separate night and clock-time nap modes. MELLA combines wake and bedtime schedules with a nap countdown and sound machine. Sam adds a 30–180 minute nap countdown and can operate on four AA batteries.
Match the schedule type before comparing extras
Choose Groclock when a nap should end at a specific time of day. Choose MELLA when a nap should run for a duration started at nap time. Light to Rise documents wake and bedtime schedules, but its current support summary does not establish a separate nap mode.
None of these four has documented weekday/weekend recurrence. Groclock, MELLA, and Sam use daily settings rather than day-specific routines. If separate days are essential, the app-versus-on-device guide covers models that support them.
A visual cue can remain silent
Groclock, MELLA, and Sam document a light-only wake cue plus a separate audible alarm. Light to Rise includes a sound machine, but Yogasleep does not state whether its wake cue can run without sound or whether it has a separate alarm. If a silent cue is required, that uncertainty keeps Light to Rise from being a confirmed match.
Groclock, MELLA, and Sam allow the clock display to be switched off. Light to Rise documents a dimmable display, but Yogasleep does not state that it can be fully disabled.
Only Sam among these four operates on batteries
Sam can operate on four AA batteries and preserve its settings if USB power stops; the batteries are not included and the manufacturer does not publish a runtime. Light to Rise, Groclock, and MELLA stop operating without external power even though they preserve settings in different ways.
Light to Rise retains settings for up to 72 hours. Groclock freezes its time and saved values, so the display falls behind by the length of a longer outage. MELLA uses a CR2032 coin cell for basic memory settings. See battery backup versus memory backup for the practical distinction.
